外電媒體引述警方消息指，事發時為當地早上繁忙時間，當地紐新航港局客運總站（Port Authority）地下通道有土製炸彈爆炸，該通道連接巴士總站的地鐵站及紐約時代廣場的地鐵站。早前有報道指有數人受傷，一名持有第二個裝置的疑犯被捕，他亦有受傷。警方後來在Twitter指連同疑犯合共4人受傷，部份地下鐵線路要疏散，亦呼籲民眾暫不要前往該區。
