美國權威辭典Merriam-Webster周二（7日）宣佈新增1,000個新詞彙到網絡辭典，新增詞語涵蓋政治、體育及技術範疇，亦有不少網絡用語。最新收錄詞彙有掩面（face-palm）、側眼望（side-eye）及煲劇（binge-watch）等。

Merriam-Webster每年增加不多於50個新詞彙，今年新增大量詞彙，Merriam-Webster編輯表示是因為「反映英文詞彙之廣，並趕上我們最求資訊的速度」。以下為部份新增詞彙：

掩面（face-palm）

為人熟悉的掩面emoji「face-palm」今年打入Merriam-Webster。根據辭典，face-palm可用作名詞或動詞，意思是用手掩蓋臉孔，表達尷尬、沮喪、惱怒之情。

例句：But her body language was not good from the start on Saturday. She face-palmed after missing one forehand early, then shook her head after another errant shot.

側眼望（side-eye）

另一入圍emoji字詞是側眼望，辭典解釋側眼望是用以表示藐視、懷疑、不認同或好奇，同樣可以用作名詞或動詞。

例句：The guy who stole your heart as the class clown can seem like just a clown out of his original context, like when people are giving him side-eye for cracking lame jokes in the hostess line.

煲劇（binge-watch）

隨著網絡串流影片發展，不少人改變了看電視的習慣，何時何地都可以在網上重溫電視節目，一不小心更會一次過看完整套劇集。Binge-watch就是連續看很多集、或看完所有電視劇集數的行為，亦即廣東話的煲劇。

拍照時亂入（photobomb）

外國不少明星經常亂入照片，被媒體報道，令photobomb照片在社交媒體瘋傳。Photobomb意思是指在按下快門的一刻，抱著惡作劇或開玩笑心態，進入拍攝畫面搶鏡，可以用作名詞或動詞。

例句：… one of his favorite pranks was to “photobomb” other fans—sneaking into the background of their photographs …

斷絕來往（ghost）

Ghost原本是指鬼魂，但Merriam-Webster就最新加入網上流行用法，意思是突然與某人斷絕聯繫（例如是前度），斷絕來往者不會接聽電話、不回電、收到即時訊息亦只會「已讀不回」。
